The most perfect Italian Tuscany Elopement
Tuscany is the perfect destination if you’re looking for a typical Italian Wedding – imagine Pizza, Pasta, Wine (or Aperol Sprizz?), strolling through cute towns eating Pistachio croissants and drinking the perfect Italian espresso, driving around with your vintage car through winding roads and typical cypress streets, saying your vows in front of the most amazing sunset you’ve ever seen and enjoying a dinner under the stars from a private chef. That sounds actually kinda perfect, right? This is exactly what Madlen & Michael, our couple from Austria did. Let’s draw some inspiration for your own elopement, shall we?
About their Story
Madlen & Michael grew up in the same neighborhood and knew each other from shared childhood memories. Years later, life brought them back together, and they fell in love — the kind of love that feels straight out of a movie. Their shared sense of humor and adventure was clear from the moment we met them.
The two decided on a secret elopement in Italy instead of a traditional wedding, and surprised their loved ones on the day-of with a sneak peek photo and highlight video from us. Their friends and family were so excited for them and couldn’t believe it, though, they said this is very typical for them both. Oh, and they had another huge suprise for their friends & family, continue reading to find out! 🙂
Legal Ceremony in Pienza, Tuscany
This intimate Italy elopement took place in a beautiful village called Pienza, located in southern Tuscany. As experienced Tuscany elopement photographers, we’re there not only to create beautiful images, but to assist and guide our couples through planning and creating the perfect day–and we mean that! We exchanged over 30 emails to plan the couples legal ceremony and 40 emails with the couple’s restaurant of choice–Podere il Casale–to make sure that every last detail about their elopement day dinner reservation was squared away, from specific seating preferences to the menu and wine choices.
Madlen & Michael reached out just four months before their planned date (their 5 year anniversary), and we were more than happy to provide our experience and expertise as well as research on locations, vendors like hair & make-up artists, florists, a cute vintage car (for the full Italian feeling), ceremony and dinner spots, lodging options as well as legal requirements. It is possible to get legally married in Italy although it depends a bit on where you’re from. We briefly summarized what you need for a Legal Wedding in Italy for Foreigners here:
Most Europeans citizens need:
- Marriage certificate
- Birth certificate
- Copy of a valid proof of identity (passport or identity card)
- Registration form
- Original proof of citizenship
- All documents translated into Italian
- A translator for the ceremony itself
Citizens from the US, Canada, non EU-citizens, citizens from the Asian continent, South America, Australia and New Zealand would need everything above as well as Certifications from the respective embassy of the country of origin in Italy. US citizens can find more information here.
This was Madlen & Michael’s super intimate legal wedding ceremony in Pienza, Tuscany with their authentic officiant from the city. They even got a few printed pictures from the town as well as a beautifully designed marriage certificate. How cute is that??!
Tuscany Elopement Timeline Example
Madlen & Michael’s Italy elopement was intimate, beautiful, and memorable. From their first look at their Tuscan-style AirBnB, to afternoon cappuccinos and croissants, to the tears they shared as they exchanged vows in front of a castle at sunset, and their private dinner at Podere il Casale, Madlen & Michael enjoyed every second of their day together. And, of course, we can’t forget the biggest surprise of the day–Madlen & Michael brought a custom-designed newspaper, with the headline announcing that they were expecting a baby! We loved capturing this extra-special moment that made an already gorgeous day even more memorable.
