The Most Beautiful Places & Venues to Elope in Tuscany

Tuscany has a way of making you slow down automatically. Cypress-lined roads. Rolling hills covered in vineyards. Ancient stone farmhouses. Tiny medieval towns. And somewhere between all of that, you want to get married (yes, we absolutely get why!).

Maybe you’re dreaming of a day where it’s just the two of you. Maybe you want your parents and siblings there. Maybe you’re imagining a dinner with 10 of your favourite people under the Tuscan stars. Or maybe you’re not sure yet. Whatever your version of a perfect wedding day will look like in the end, Tuscany is made for it!  However, finding the right wedding or elopement spot can be surprisingly difficult. So this guide focuses specifically on Tuscany elopement venues, intimate wedding venues and micro wedding locations in Tuscany – including beautiful estates, private villas, boutique hotels, Airbnbs and smaller venues where the setting is part of the experience.

By the way, Hi!

We are Katja & Walter, your experienced photographer, videographer and planning duo for elopements and intimate weddings in Italy. Whether you dream of a Tuscany elopement just the two of you or an intimate wedding surrounded by your closest family and friends, we can’t wait to hear from you and create an unforgettable experience in Tuscany together!

Elopement or Intimate Wedding - What's the Difference, and Why It Matters for Choosing a Venue

Elopement vs Intimate Wedding – Definition

An elopement usually means just the two of you (maybe a couple of witnesses); an intimate or micro wedding brings in a small, handpicked group – parents, siblings, your closest friends. The number sounds small either way, but it changes almost everything about how you plan, and especially where. Because a venue that works beautifully for 150 people can feel completely wrong for a wedding with eight. And a ceremony spot that is perfect for a “just the two of us”- elopement day, might not allow any guest.

So when you’re planning a large wedding, you might start with capacity. For an elopement or micro wedding in Tuscany, we’d start somewhere else: How do you want the day to feel? Full freedom and flexibility, or a proper wedding day, just with your closest few instead of 150?

Beyond the obvious (a beautiful setting, a ceremony spot), what matters more for a small Tuscany wedding is privacy, a place that doesn’t feel empty with a handful of guests, and room to actually spend time together – doing something you both love, rather than running a reception. And perhaps most importantly: does the venue work for the number of people you actually want to invite – or does it also work if it’s just the two of you? A beautiful estate built for 150-guest weddings isn’t necessarily the right choice for a couple eloping with their parents. Sometimes the tiny boutique hotel or the right Airbnb wins.

The Freedom You Loose or Win

There’s one more difference worth naming: eloping with just the two of you gives you far more freedom. You can say your vows in an open field, or on a romantic street in town at sunrise. Add a few guests, and that freedom narrows – you’ll likely need an actual venue (or an Airbnb that allows small celebrations), plus some logistics: more cars, more time to get everyone from A to B, someone to coordinate everything.

The Best ELOPEMENT Locations in Tuscany

Before we dive into official Tuscany wedding venues as well as hotels to rent for elopements as well as intimate weddings, let’s talk about the places that make you stop and think: “This is where I want to be, only me and my partner, wandering around and saying our vows.”

From the rolling hills of the Val d’Orcia to iconic Tuscan chapels, vineyards and hidden countryside spots, Tuscany is full of incredible settings for an intimate ceremony or elopement.

Just keep in mind: a beautiful ceremony spot isn’t automatically an official wedding venue (we’ll talk about these later, so just keep scrolling). Some locations require permission, some are best suited for symbolic ceremonies with just the two of you, and some can’t host larger groups of people at all.

Just a little side note: If spending hours researching permits and locations on the internet sounds more exhausting than exciting, let us take that part off your plate. 😉

We’re not just your photographer and videographer duo – we also help our couples with the planning and research that comes with putting together an elopement or intimate wedding. From finding the right place to stay and scouting ceremony locations to recommending vendors and figuring out what actually makes sense for your day, we’re happy to help you with the bits you don’t necessarily want to spend your evenings doing yourself. Let’s get in touch via our contact form!

Pienza – Perfect for an Elopement

If you want a little bit of Italian history and countryside romance on your elopement day, Pienza is hard to beat. This beautiful Renaissance town sits in the heart of the Val d’Orcia and gives you a completely different atmosphere from a private villa or countryside estate.

You can wander through the historic streets, stop for an aperitivo, explore little corners of the town and then head into the surrounding countryside for portraits. Pienza can also be an option for couples planning a legal civil ceremony, depending on the current requirements and available ceremony locations. One of our couples, Madlen & Michael, had their legal ceremony in Pienza – you can read their full Tuscany elopement story here! (In this blogpost we’re also briefly summarized what you need for a Legal Wedding in Italy for Foreigners.)

Montepulciano

If you want that classic Tuscan atmosphere but also love the idea of having a beautiful historic town as part of your elopement experience, Montepulciano is another great option. Perched on a hill in southern Tuscany, Montepulciano gives you the best of both worlds: beautiful historic streets and architecture, incredible views across the surrounding countryside and plenty of vineyards just outside the town.

One of our couples, Alexis & Tommy, actually spent part of their elopement day simply strolling through Montepulciano. No rush, just wandering through the historic streets, enjoying the atmosphere, stopping for pizza and gelato and letting the day unfold naturally.

Val d’Orcia

If you have a Pinterest board full of rolling Tuscan hills, cypress trees, winding roads and golden fields, chances are you already have the Val d’Orcia in mind. The towns Pienza and Montepulciano we mentioned before actually are in Val d’Orcia too. And it has so many beautiful natural sights too.

This UNESCO-listed landscape is one of the most iconic areas for a Tuscany elopement and is particularly beautiful for couples who don’t want their entire day to happen at one venue.

Instead, you can make the landscape part of the experience: get ready at your accommodation, explore the countryside, stop for portraits, exchange vows somewhere meaningful and finish the day with dinner at a beautiful Tuscan property.

And honestly, sometimes the best location isn’t a famous landmark at all, it’s simply a quiet road, an olive grove or a hilltop with nobody else around.

Agriturismo Baccoleno

You’ve probably already seen this place on Pinterest or Instagram: the cypress-lined road at Agriturismo Baccoleno is one of the most photographed spots in Tuscany. What most people don’t know is that it’s no longer open to the public – the property was fenced off a while back, and the classic photo stop is gone.

There is still a way in, though: a private, completely legal arrangement that lets you hold your ceremony or photoshoot right there, with no crowds, no fences, no one else in the frame. For an elopement it’s one of the most striking settings in the Val d’Orcia – and almost no one else will have it.

This is exactly what we’ve recommended to our couple Jacqulyn & Michael. They chose Baccoleno for their ceremony and had this iconic stretch of Tuscany entirely to themselves.

Want that road for your own Tuscany elopement? Reach out and we’ll arrange it for you!

More Secret Elopement Locations in Tuscany

Baccoleno is just one chapter. Over the years of planning and photographing elopements across Tuscany, we’ve found ourselves standing in places many people never get to see – a cypress grove at the end of an unmarked road, a ridge overlooking the Val d’Orcia with nothing but wind and light, a courtyard that belongs to no guidebook. Not the places everyone photographs. The places that feel like they were waiting for exactly two people to find them.

We don’t publish most of them. We save them for the couples we plan with – so that when you say your vows, you’re not sharing the view with a tour bus.

Ready to find yours? Let’s start planning.

Tuscany Elopement Venues & Hotels for your Intimate Wedding

All of this freedom – the unmarked roads, the views with no one else around – works beautifully when it’s just the two of you. But the moment you add guests, whether it’s six or sixty, the calculation changes. People need somewhere to park, somewhere to sit, a bathroom that isn’t a bush at the edge of a vineyard. A proper venue or an AirBnB style accommodation gives you that infrastructure without losing the intimacy: a place built to host a ceremony, a dinner, and everyone who matters most, without the logistics taking over your day.

So if your Tuscany elopement or intimate wedding includes a few of the people you love most, here are some venues and hotels worth knowing about.

Palazzo Massaini - Perfect for an Intimate Wedding or a Sunset Ceremony

If you have ever imagined getting married in the Tuscan countryside, Palazzo Massaini probably looks very close to the picture in your head. Located near Pienza in the Val d’Orcia, this historic estate is surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and the rolling landscape that makes this part of Tuscany so recognisable.

Our couples Madlen & Michael had their sunset ceremony there (just the two of them), and also Jacqulyn & Michael choose the beautiful gardens of Palazzo Massaini as a spot for their couple photos.

As you can see, it’s great for a 2-Person-Elopement, some photos or a romantic wine tasting, but also a great Tuscany wedding location for a bigger celebration.

Capanna Suites - Perfect for a Tuscany Elopement or an Intimate Wedding

If you’re specifically searching for a Tuscany elopement or Intimate wedding venue, put Capanna Suites high on your list.

Set in the Val d’Orcia near Montalcino, Capanna Suites explicitly offers wedding packages for bigger events and elopement experiences designed around intimate celebrations. Their elopement package includes a personalized and intimate ceremony led by a member of their team, a refined welcome aperitif, bridal bouquet, floral centerpiece for the dinner table, and a multi-course tasting dinner at Il Passaggio, with wine pairings selected to highlight the authentic flavors of Tuscany.

However, the property can accommodate up to 24 guests, making it interesting not only for couples eloping but also for small weddings in Tuscany.

La Palazzina in Val d’Orcia – Your Private Family Villa in Tuscany

La Palazzina in Val d’Orcia is a family villa with a private pool in the heart of the Val d’Orcia and specifically offers both civil and symbolic weddings. It’s perfect for elopements, intimate weddings and couples who want a relaxed villa experience in a homely and welcoming environment.

Antico Convento Santa Chiara - What about an Historic Setting for your Intimate Wedding in Tuscany?

Antico Convento Santa Chiara is a 16th-century convent in Sarteano, between the Val di Chiana and Val d’Orcia. The property welcomes civil, religious and secular ceremonies as well as private receptions. It offers exclusive-use options and seven rooms for guests. For an intimate wedding, that means you can potentially have the whole place feel like yours rather than being one small group in a huge wedding venue.

Dimora Santa Margherita - Intimate Wedding Venue in the Tuscan Maremma

Not every Tuscany wedding needs to happen in the Val d’Orcia. If you want somewhere quieter and less obvious, look towards the Tuscan Maremma. Dimora Santa Margherita is an adults-only boutique hotel and exclusive wedding venue designed specifically around intimate celebrations. The property is a transformed 17th-century farmhouse surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and Tuscan countryside. This is a beautiful option for couples who want their wedding to feel more like a private getaway than a conventional wedding weekend (they offer eight independent suites, a panoramic infinity pool, beautiful gardens and elegant shared spaces create the perfect setting for celebrating together in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma).

Vitaleta Chapel - Perfect for Elopements, Micro Weddings and Intimate Weddings

The setting around the famous Chapel of Vitaleta offers that unmistakable Val d’Orcia atmosphere, with rolling countryside and panoramic views. You can exchange your vows in a romantic and breathtaking landscape, with the opportunity to create a fully personalized and exclusive celebration. The venue is available for both symbolic and religious ceremonies its official site specifically mentions elopements, micro weddings and intimate weddings alongside larger celebrations.

Imagine saying "I Do" in front of this beautiful little chapel surrounded by rolling hills and cypress trees.

Locanda in Tuscany

If your idea of an intimate Tuscany wedding is slow, relaxed and surrounded by countryside, Locanda in Tuscany is one to put on your list. Located in the Val d’Orcia, this rustic yet charming property offers several beautiful settings for ceremonies, including its garden, the pergola by the pool and even the surrounding wheat fields. And that’s what makes Locanda particularly lovely for an Tuscany elopement or small wedding: you don’t need a huge guest list to make the setting feel special. You can spend the day exploring the Val d’Orcia, come back for an aperitivo and finish with a relaxed dinner surrounded by the people you love.

Borgo Petrognano

For couples who love the idea of a small destination wedding in Tuscany where everyone stays together, Borgo Petrognano offers a beautiful alternative to a traditional large wedding venue. Located in the Tuscan countryside of Val d’Elsa, the historic borgo is surrounded by vineyards and rolling hills and especially appealing for a micro wedding.

Tenuta La Fuga

For couples who dream of getting married surrounded by vineyards, Tenuta La Fuga offers a very different kind of Tuscan experience. Tenuta La Fuga is located in Montalcino, right in the heart of the Brunello di Montalcino wine region.

Our couple Alexis & Tommy stayed at Tenuta La Fuga for their Tuscany elopement. Like them, you could wake up surrounded by vineyards and countryside, get ready together, explore the area, head into a nearby Tuscan town for pizza and gelato, and then slow everything down again in the evening.

A Beautiful Alternative: Airbnb-Style Wedding or Elopement in Tuscany

If you’re planning something smaller, we’d actually look at private villas, holiday homes, Airbnbs, agriturismi and countryside estates too. Tuscany is full of amazingly beautiful properties – the kind with olive groves in the garden, a pool surrounded by cypress trees and a long outdoor table where everyone can sit down for dinner together.

What we’d look for

Of course, not every beautiful Tuscan villa is actually suitable for a wedding. When we’re looking for one, these are some of the things we’d pay attention to:

  • A garden, terrace or outdoor area with enough space for your ceremony and/or dinner
  • A beautiful Tuscan setting – olive groves, vineyards, cypress trees or those classic rolling hills
  • Enough outdoor space that everyone can actually relax rather than squeezing around one tiny table
  • Bedrooms for the people staying with you, if you want to turn it into a proper wedding weekend
  • A pool, because you’re in Tuscany, so why not?
  • Good light and interesting surroundings for photos throughout the day
  • A location that allows you to experience Tuscany, rather than spending the entire weekend at the venue or having to drive the whole day
  • And most importantly, enough privacy that you can actually enjoy yourselves

There is one slightly tricky but very important part, though: don’t book the villa first and ask about the wedding afterwards.

A property might be absolutely perfect for ten people staying for a few nights and still not allow a ceremony, dinner, professional photography or any kind of event. So before you get too attached to that beautiful Tuscan villa you’ve just found, message the owner or host and explain exactly what you’re planning. Get their permission in writing before booking.

And one more thing: don’t search only for “Tuscany wedding venue”. That’s where you’ll find the obvious options and you might miss some of the really interesting places.

Try looking for private villas, historic houses, agriturismi, country estates and holiday homes in the Val d’Orcia, around Pienza, Montalcino, Siena or the Tuscan countryside instead.

You might just find the place that makes you think:

Wait… why would we even want a wedding venue when we could just get married here?

Our couple Jessica & Chase for example rented a beauitful villa near Pienza, called Poggio ai Gelsi, which looked like this (psst, they also allow wedding celebrations here!)

Yes, Tuscany has some of the most amazing Airbnbs!
