Planning Your Helicopter Elopement in the Dolomites
Okay, be honest: have you ever looked at a mountain and thought “I wish I could just fly up there, skip the hiking and get married on top of it”? No? Just us? Well, either way – that’s exactly what a helicopter elopement in the Dolomites lets you do, and it might just be the most epic “yes” you’ll ever say.
Hi, we’re Katja & Walter – aka the Wenolas, your photo, video & planning duo for elopements in the Dolomites and beyond. We’ve flown into more remote peaks, hidden lakes, and cloud-level ridgelines than we can count, and we’re not exaggerating when we say: nothing beats the feeling of stepping out of a helicopter into complete, breathtaking silence with just the two of you (and maybe your favorite people on the trigger – us!). If you’re dreaming about your own Dolomites helicopter elopement, you’re exactly where you need to be. We’ve packed everything you need to know into this post – and if the planning part sounds more stressful than romantic, that’s literally our job too. Our elopement packages include full planning support, so you can skip the research rabbit hole and just get excited.
Why a Helicopter Elopement in the Dolomites?
Because some views simply weren’t made for hiking boots, or the fact that you don’t wanna hike for hours in a suit and a dress, but still want those epic Dolomites views, right? A few reasons couples fall in love with this idea:
- Scenic locations, no compromises. Helicopters open up jagged peaks, glacier ridges, and hidden viewpoints that are otherwise a multi-hour hike (or completely inaccessible) – meaning your backdrop can be as dramatic as your love story.
- No hiking skills (or fitness level) required. You don’t need to be an experienced mountaineer to say “I do” at 3,000 meters. The helicopter does the hard work, so anyone can experience these locations in comfort.
- True, uninterrupted intimacy. No trail crowds, no fellow hikers wandering into your ceremony photos – just the two of you, your officiant (if you have one), and the mountains. It’s as private as an elopement gets.
- Sunset on the summit, dinner on time. Catch golden hour on top of a mountain without the trade-off of hiking down in the dark – you’ll be back at for a relaxed dinner at a decent hour, no headlamps required.
What are The Best Places for a Dolomites Helicopter Elopement?
Here’s the beauty of eloping by helicopter: you’re not locked into the “famous five.” Seceda, Cadini di Misurina Viewpoint, Alpe di Siusi – sure, they’re iconic for a reason, but they’re also exactly where every other hiker, tourist bus, and Instagram influencer wants to be, especially in peak summer. And crowds are, quite frankly, the opposite of what an elopement is about.
The real magic of a helicopter elopement is that it opens up everywhere else, too – remote ridgelines, glacial lakes, and hidden corners of the Dolomites that most couples never even consider, simply because they’re too far to hike to (or too spectacular to share with a hundred strangers). A few of our favorites to explore are Lago Coldai, Marmolata and a hidden spot where you can see Cadini di Misurina & Tre Cime without the crowds.
How much does a Dolomites Helicopter Elopement Cost?
If you’re planning a helicopter elopement in the Dolomites, it’s important to distinguish between a regular sightseeing flight and a private helicopter charter for your elopement.
A standard sightseeing flight can be relatively affordable when the cost is shared between passengers. BUT that one doesn’t include a stop somewhere, and you’d need to compromise. If you want the helicopter exclusively for the two of you, with a customised route and one or more alpine landings (which we’d recommend) you’re looking at around €1,800–€3,200+ for a private helicopter in the Dolomites.
A basic 30 minute flight with one mountain landing can start around €1,800, while a longer booking with several alpine landings and multiple hours of helicopter time can reach around €3,500 or more. The exact price depends on the helicopter, flight duration, route, number of landings and what is currently possible at your desired location.

What are the Best Companies for a Dolomites Helicopter Elopement?
When planning a helicopter elopement, we’d recommend working directly with an experienced local helicopter operator. We already worked multiple times with the following two helicopter operators in the Dolomites: KronAir and Elikos.
If you’re staying in the Val Pusteria region, meaning close to Lago di Braies, Passo Giao, Tre Cime, Cortina d’Ampezzo, then KronAir is the closest one for you. And if you’re located around Seceda, Alpe di Siusi, Val Gardena, Bolzano then Elikos is the nearest Helicopter Company.
What is The Best Time for a Dolomites Helicopter Elopement?
Short answer: there isn’t a bad time – just different vibes depending on the season.
Late spring through early autumn is the sweet spot for most couples, with June to September being the most popular window. This is peak Dolomites season for a reason: green alpine meadows, dramatic peaks, and generally reliable conditions for flying and exploring. June is particularly stunning when the meadows are in full bloom, while July and August bring that classic lush summer landscape, though also a higher chance of afternoon thunderstorms, plus more tourists on the ground (not that it matters much when you’re landing somewhere they can’t reach).
Prefer things a little quieter? September and early October can be pure magic, with softer light, the first hints of autumn color, and noticeably fewer crowds. Just keep in mind the mountains can surprise you with early snow this time of year, so flexibility helps.
And if you’re the kind of couple who dreams in snow-covered peaks rather than green meadows, don’t rule out winter or early spring. A winter helicopter elopement in the Dolomites is a completely different kind of stunning, and contrary to what you might think, it doesn’t require special mountaineering gear. A solid base layer and a good pair of high-profile boots (so you’re not sinking knee-deep in snow on the summit) is really all you need.
What if the Weather Forecast is bad for our Helicopter Elopement in the Dolomites?
First: don’t panic. Mountain weather can change quickly, and a bad forecast several days in advance doesn’t necessarily mean your helicopter elopement won’t happen. At the same time helicopter operators need suitable visibility, wind and weather conditions to fly safely. Alpine storms, low clouds or poor visibility can mean that your flight has to be delayed, changed or cancelled. All companies working in the Dolomites are professional and experienced and always have your safety in mind, while still being as flexible as possible (and so are we as your photographers!).
That’s why we recommend building a 2-3 day weather buffer into your Dolomites elopement trip anyway, no matter if you choose to fly with a helicopter or not. Avoid arriving the evening before your flight and flying home the next morning. Having some flexibility gives you a much better chance of moving the helicopter experience to another day if necessary.
And most importantly: have a Plan B. Your elopement doesn’t have to depend on the helicopter. You could explore the mountains by cable car, spend time at an alpine hut, plan a scenic hike, enjoy a long lunch together or simply embrace the landscape from the valley, if the weather doesn’t allow the flight.
For our couples, we always have a Plan B, C, D, and E in mind! 😉
Dolomites Helicopter Elopement Packing List
Here’s the thing about mountain weather: it does what it wants. One minute it’s sunny in the valley, the next there’s snow sitting on the peaks just a few hundred meters up, and that’s completely normal for the Dolomites, even in the middle of summer. So packing smart isn’t optional, it’s part of the plan.
We’ve put together everything we recommend bringing in a separate post: our complete Dolomites Elopement Packing List, so you can check it off well before your flight up.
