And it’s also a place, that’s still a bit unknown for weddings, not like her sister Lake Como. You can say, Lake Garda is still a hidden gem, for sure.
Imagining your Lake Garda wedding day
So what could a Lake Garda wedding day actually look like?
Maybe you start the morning slowly at your villa, have breakfast together and get ready in the same house – or keep things separate until your first look. You exchange your vows somewhere overlooking the lake, then take your time exploring one of the little villages along the shore, stopping for an espresso, gelato or a glass of wine along the way.
Or maybe you bring your closest people along for the day. Get married in one of those stunning wedding venues and have a long, relaxed dinner together outside under fairylights.

So, you’re dreaming of a destination wedding or elopement at Lake Garda but you’re not sure which wedding venue is the one yet? To help you narrow it down, we’ve gathered 6 romantic Lake Garda wedding venues worth looking into!
Isola del Garda – Wedding Venue in Italy
Starting off strong: If you’re looking for something truly unforgettable and unique, Isola del Garda is one of these wedding venues that is hard to beat! You’re wondering why? This place is an actual castle on an island on the lake. Just imagine arriving at your wedding by boat. The lake surrounds you. The historic villa rises above the gardens. Your guests arrive on a private island where they can spend the afternoon surrounded by terraces, lush vegetation and views across Lake Garda. It is exactly the kind of setting that makes a destination wedding feel like an once-in-a-lifetime adventure.
Isola del Garda is a privately owned island and can be reached by boat. Weddings can take place in several different areas, including the frescoed Loggia, Italian gardens, park, greenhouse and the area around the boathouse. For ceremonies, both civil and symbolic celebrations are possible. There are different options, but this stunning locations can even accommodate up to 50-100 guests. So it’s not only perfect for elopements but also for intimate weddings.

If you’re planning a Lake Garda wedding, Sirmione is probably one of the places you’ll come across again and again. It’s beautiful, yes – but it can also get pretty busy, especially in summer.
That’s why Villa Cortine Palace is such an interesting option. The villa sits right at the end of the Sirmione peninsula, surrounded by its own huge Mediterranean gardens. So once you’re inside, it feels surprisingly removed from everything happening outside the gates.
The villa itself has that old-school Italian grandeur: beautiful rooms, lots of history and gardens full of palms, cypress trees and hidden little corners. And because it’s also a hotel, your wedding doesn’t have to be a one-day affair where everyone arrives, celebrates and leaves again.
Honestly, we’d make a weekend out of it.
Have everyone arrive on Friday, meet for an aperitivo and dinner on the lake, spend Saturday getting married and celebrating properly, and then don’t set an alarm on Sunday. Have breakfast together, take a walk through Sirmione, jump on a boat or simply spend a few more hours by the lake before everyone heads home.
That’s probably our favourite thing about destination weddings: you get more than just the wedding day. You actually get time with your people.
Villa Cortine Palace Elopement
And if you’re thinking about eloping at Lake Garda rather than bringing a whole wedding party, there’s another option worth knowing about: Villa Cortine offers its in-house guests the possibility of having a small photo session and ceremony in the private park.
So you don’t have to rent out the whole hotel for an elopement, but can enjoy some intimate moments in their beautiful gardens and then head out onto the lake via boat our foot.
Lake Garda Villa Bettoni
If you’re the kind of person who sees an old Italian villa and immediately wants to know who lived there, what happened here and whether you can get married there – you’ll probably love Villa Bettoni.
This one probably one of the bigger venues on Lake Garda too.
It’s an 18th-century villa in Bogliaco di Gargnano, right on the western side of Lake Garda, and it is properly old-world Italian. We’re talking frescoes, sculptures, grand rooms and a huge Italian garden that feels more like you’ve accidentally walked onto the set of an old movie than arrived at a wedding venue.
And then there’s the lake.
One of the things we love about Villa Bettoni is that you don’t necessarily have to choose between the grand villa setting and being right by the water. There are several beautiful spots around the property for your ceremony — including the option to get married outside with Lake Garda just behind you.
It’s definitely not the place we’d recommend if you’re looking for something minimal and modern. But if your idea of Italy involves old stone, faded frescoes, manicured gardens, a little bit of history and saying your vows with the sound of the lake in the background, this one is hard to beat.
Villa Fiordaliso - Perfect for Intimate Weddings at Lake Garda
Villa Fiordaliso is a completely different kind of option. You won’t get the huge estate, 20 guest rooms and wedding machinery that comes with some of the bigger Lake Garda venues – and that’s exactly why we like it.
It’s a small hotel in Gardone Riviera, with just six suites, a restaurant and the lake right outside. The building was originally a private residence, so it still feels much more like a beautiful Italian home than a typical hotel.
For us, this is the kind of place that makes sense when you’re bringing only your favourite people. Everyone can stay in the same place, you can actually spend time together rather than just seeing everyone for a few hours on the wedding day, and then sit down for dinner without having to turn the whole thing into a massive production.
Six suites, your favourite people, Lake Garda outside the window. Honestly, what more do you need?
Villa Arcadio - Getting Married on the Hills overlooking Lake Garda
If your idea of an intimate wedding is a beautiful villa, plenty of privacy and a few days of simply enjoying Italy together, Villa Arcadio might be worth putting on your list.
Villa Arcadio is tucked away in the hills above Salò, surrounded by olive trees and greenery, with views stretching across Lake Garda. And what we really love about it is that you don’t just come here for a few hours to get married and leave again. The villa can be booked exclusively for weddings, with 18 rooms on site and a minimum stay of two nights, making it a lovely setting for a small wedding weekend with your favourite people.
The garden and panoramic pool area can host receptions of up to 80 guests, but we think Villa Arcadio is especially beautiful when you keep things a little more intimate.
Your Wedding Weekend at Lake Garda
Instead of having everyone arrive on the morning of the wedding, imagine actually having time together.
Your closest friends and family arrive the day before, you settle into the villa and everyone gets together for a relaxed welcome dinner on a boat. No rushing, no trying to fit everything into a few hours, just good food, wine and the people you actually wanted there in the first place.
The next day is your wedding day. You get ready at the villa, exchange your vows in the garden with Lake Garda stretching out behind you and spend the afternoon enjoying a long dinner together. And when the sun starts to set, you could head down to the lake for a private boat ride before returning to the villa.
Then, instead of waking up and immediately saying goodbye, there’s one more morning together. A slow breakfast or brunch, a swim in the pool, maybe a boat trip or a little afternoon exploring around Salò.
That’s what makes a place like Villa Arcadio so special to us: the wedding doesn’t have to be just one day. You get to turn it into a little Italian getaway with the people you love most.
Villa San Vigilio – Renaissance wedding venue on Lake Garda
If you’ve ever driven around Lake Garda and thought, okay, this is exactly what I imagined Italy to look like, there’s a good chance you were somewhere around Punta San Vigilio.
And right at the tip of the peninsula sits Villa San Vigilio. The villa itself dates back to the 16th century, but honestly, it’s the setting that gets us. It sits right on the water, surrounded by old cypress and olive trees, with the lake basically becoming part of the whole scene.
It’s one of those places where you don’t need to add much. The old stone, the gardens, the little paths leading down to the water – it already has so much character.
And because you can have the villa exclusively for your celebration, it makes a lot of sense for couples who want to keep their Lake Garda wedding small. Think a handful of your favourite people, a long dinner by the lake, and nowhere else you need to be afterwards.
A Beautiful Alternative: Airbnb-Style Wedding or Elopement at Lake Garda
You don’t necessarily need a wedding venue
Not every Lake Garda wedding needs a historic villa with a wedding package and a long list of suppliers you have to book along with it.
If you’re planning something smaller, we’d actually look at private villas, holiday homes and Airbnb-style properties too. There are some seriously beautiful houses around Lake Garda – the kind with olive trees in the garden, a pool overlooking the lake and a big outdoor table where everyone can sit down for dinner together.
And for a small wedding or elopement, that can sometimes feel much more like you than a traditional wedding venue.
Imagine staying there with your favourite people for a few days, getting ready at the house, having your ceremony in the garden and cooking (or having someone cook!) dinner outside that evening. You don’t have to leave the property after the ceremony, and the whole thing can feel much more like a holiday with your people than a wedding that happens to take place somewhere pretty.
What we’d look for
Of course, not every beautiful holiday villa is actually suitable for a wedding. When we’re looking for one, these are some of the things we’d pay attention to:
- A garden or terrace with enough space to have your ceremony and/or dinner
- A great view – ideally of the lake, but even a beautiful garden can be enough
- Enough outdoor space that you don’t feel like you’re squeezing everyone around a tiny table
- Bedrooms for the people staying with you, if you want to turn it into a proper wedding weekend
- Maybe a pool, because you’re in Italy, so why not?
- Good light and interesting surroundings for photos
- And most importantly, enough privacy that you can actually enjoy yourselves
There is one slightly tricky but very important part, though: don’t book the villa first and ask about the wedding afterwards.
A property might be absolutely perfect for ten people staying a few nights and still not allow a ceremony, dinner, professional photography or any kind of event. So before you get too attached to that beautiful villa you’ve just found, message the host and explain exactly what you’re planning.
Tell them how many people will stay overnight, how many guests you’ll have, whether you’re planning a dinner or music, and whether you’ll have a photographer, videographer or planner coming to the property. Get their permission in writing before booking.
And one more thing: don’t search only for “Lake Garda wedding venue”. That’s where you’ll find the obvious options – and you’ll miss a lot of the really interesting ones.
Try looking for private villas, historic houses, countryside estates and lake-view holiday homes around the lake instead. You might find the place that makes you think, wait, why would we even want a wedding venue when we could just get married here?

When is the Best Time for a Lake Garda Wedding?
Lake Garda is beautiful throughout the wedding season and the climate is mild, but of course the atmosphere changes depending on when you visit. During the Summer months (July – August) it can also get very hot and it is more crowded. We’d usually recommend May, June or early July as well as September and October. We strongly advise to avoid August, especially the time around the 15th of August, as during that time most Italians are on holidays, a lot of shops and restaurants are closed and the beaches are full.
- Spring brings fresh greenery, flowers and comfortable temperatures, while it might be a bit chilly to have an outdoor dinner in the evening.
- Early summer offers long days (with the longest day on the 21st of June), usually warm evenings and beautiful Mediterranean light. During Summer, we recommend to avoid strolling through the town around midday, as it can get extremely hot and busy.
- Late summer is especially perfect for long dinners outside, as it is usually warm the whole day and night long. But summer brings a lot of tourists, which can spoil the intimate mood.
- Early autumn can be especially beautiful for couples who love warmer, softer colours and a more relaxed atmosphere, tourists thin out, with the water still being warm. Evenings might be chillier again.

Start your wedding day slowly and privately. Get ready together, exchange your vows somewhere beautiful during sunrise and take time to explore Lake Garda as newlyweds. Go for a private boat ride, wander through the streets of Sirmione or enjoy a relaxed couple’s picnic with no one else around.
This part of the day is completely yours: no guests, no schedule and no distractions.
Half a day with your favourite people
Later, meet up with your family and friends for an intimate celebration. Enjoy an aperitivo, dinner overlooking the lake, speeches, cake and plenty of time to celebrate together.
This way, you get the intimacy and adventure of an elopement, while still having the opportunity to celebrate your marriage with the people who matter most.
It could be the perfect compromise: half a day for just the two of you, half a day with your favourite people and one unforgettable Lake Garda wedding experience.
